The second child of Napoleon’s brother Joseph, Charlotte studied drawing and painting with Jacques-Louis David in Brussels before joining her father at his estate in Bordentown, New Jersey, where he had fled after Napoleon’s abdication in 1815. While in America, Charlotte continued to draw and paint, and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
