The Benedictine monastery founded by Saint Augustine in the sixth century is shown as the source of spiritual and physical sustenance for the community. Two noble hunters, accompanied by their retinue, stop for refreshments. Their retainer has been served soup, and a monk distributes bread to peasants at the monastery door.
