By 1903 a secret romance had developed between the married teacher and his pupil. When he took his students to the village of Kallmüntz to paint outdoors, Münter joined him; she remained his companion until 1914. This sketch from the summer of 1903 may be a document of their relationship. With Kallmüntz in the background, a lady in medieval dress walks on a stone parapet followed by a page.
