\n\tWhen I ask a group of young children if they identify as artists, hands shoot up into the air with gusto. Adults, however, are often timid and unsure about their own creative identity. Even those who spend time exploring a creative craft will bashfully confess, “I am not artistic.” Münter’s eye is typically focused on the land around her, but here she is not shy about making herself the main attraction of the scene. By portraying herself as a painter, she is proudly declaring her artistic identity. Her style is soft, muted, floral, gossamer, even bare in some parts, but her statement is bold. She looks herself in the eyes as if to say: “I am a painter. I am an artist. I am my art, and my art is me.”\n
