Serving as a pretext for the display of idealized male nudes, the scene showed a moment before the battle, when a group of Florentine soldiers was surprised by the Pisan army while bathing in the Arno River. Derived from the left portion of<br>the cartoon, Raimondi’s engraving features three bathers, one of whom reaches down to help a fourth out of the water. Raimondi appropriated the landscape background from a recent print by the Netherlandish artist Lucas van Leyden.","remarks":"K1-3 Rotation Oct 2018"}],"datebegin":1510,"sortnumber":"1941   62x","published_date":"2026-03-05 08:36:59.868382","objectid":3713,"dimensions":"sheet trimmed to plate: 25.7 x 22.3 cm (10 1/8 x 8 3/4 in.)","on_view":false}
