His hands with long nails are held down clasped together below his stomach and he is barefooted. Lü Dongbin was a Tang dynasty scholar who was later elevated to become one of the of a group of deities known as the Eight Immortals. He is often depicted as being dressed as a scholar and carrying a sword on his back to dispels evil but is here shown weaponless in a more casual manner.
