Although each has an international reputation as a “Chinese artist,” both Chang and Cherney were born in the United States, and their work is often considered to be American. Following <em>Outside In</em>, the two began collaborating: Cherney produces photographs that Chang extends in painting. This joint exploration demonstrates the flexible boundaries of various media as well as the artists’ capacity for creating works that appear to merge almost seamlessly. Here they are paying homage to Li Sixun, a late seventh- to early eighth-century painter known for his complex and colorful landscapes.<p></p>","remarks":"Asian rotation February 2020, see Asian
